RATIONALE EXTENDED

In preparation for my FMP, i have evaluated the work which i have produced over the past three years on the course and started looking at the type of designer which i am becoming, through the work which i have produced.

the work which i have produced and enjoy working in, has a combination of different styles. i like to work with a combination of type an image within my work. i want to produce work which explores a range of ways type and image can work together. this could be a combination in a illustrative format, 'type as image'. this is an area which i feel more comfortable in, as i have more control over my work when i can use a hand crafted approach, which can later be finalized in a digital format. i have found that producing work like this is appropriate for a limited amount of briefs and i want to explore a wider range of approaches to producing work. i have also developed more of an interest into typography and letter form. i can produce 'type as image' through the use of only typography by considering layout and working with the different range of ways type can be applied. such as the use of different weights, sizes and adjustments such as italics. this will allow me to include the same amount of craft and attention to detail in this style of working as i like to put into my image work. i also want to take into consideration the style of imagery which i use with my type design.
